Dr Kwasi Kefentse Tonge is currently employed as the Learning Support and I.T. officer at the University of the West Indies (Five Islands Campus) and sits on the University of the West Indies Disability Planning Committee. Dr. Tonge has a Ph.D. in disability studies, guided by research on The Social Model of Disability and examined the experiences of people with spinal Injury in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). Dr Tonge is also a graduate of Greenwich University with a BSc in Business Technology, a Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Hertfordshire and a postgraduate diploma in secondary education from the University of the West Indies.
He presented his speciality area, the Social Model of Disability, in several fora, including academic, religious and social settings. His research interests include Inclusivity in Education, Phenomenology in Disabled Individuals, Legislations Governing People with Disabilities, the Social Model of Disability, Inclusive curriculum and Gender and Disability. Dr. Tonge is intimately involved in the amendment of the Disability Act in his home country, Antigua and Barbuda and hopes to effect further similar changes in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), where his study was conducted. As a newly minted Ph.D, Dr. Tonge hopes to research various aspects of disability, including “The Inclusive Educational System”, “The Experiences of Caregivers, Who Care for Individuals with Spine Injuries”, ” An Improved Social Model and What It Means for the OECS.”
